Growing the Next Generation of Artists and Audiences  Educational Programs

Supporting and promoting arts education is a major goal for El Paseo Arts Foundation.  We believe it is incumbent upon us as artists and patrons of the arts to develop the next generation of artists, patrons and audiences for the arts.  To that end, we sponsor a variety of initiatives.

For eight years, each summer El Paseo Arts has partnered with the Port Isabel Library to sponsor a series of summer art camps.  The program has grown more successful each year and in 2016, we sponsored three age group sessions for local students and paid for all the supplies and materials.

For the last four years we have also partnered with ArtSpace on their summer workshops by providing four student scholarships.

Each year we also bring in a professional artist or group of artists to perform or lead workshops for students at the Port Isabel School District.  Past programs have included professional troops of actors to perform children’s theatre plays, creative writing workshops, storytelling performances, dance programs and workshops and music programs.

The 2016 workshops for high school students featured Darden Smith, award winning singer and songwriter.educational-program-d-smith

El Paseo Arts also provides twenty complimentary tickets to major season events to local students in art, theatre and music programs.

In 2016, El Paseo Arts offered two free acting workshops open to participants 15 years of age and older.acting-workshops2

“The Guy Blatnik Memorial Scholarship Program”

Finally, six years ago, El Paseo Arts began awarding scholarships to local graduates who intend to pursue advanced study in the arts.  In 2016, El Paseo Art awarded three renewable scholarships to students pursuing advanced study in art, music and photography.  The winners of this year’s awards are:
